Obama con Biden (preface)

Is Obama really a "new" Democrat who will bring us together, along with unspecified change (presumably for the better)? That depends on your Clintonian definitions of the words "new," "Democrat" and "change." Based on his uniformed pledge to remove troops from Iraq in 16 months (which might not even be possible), one might suggest replacing "new" with "naive." And, like his arrogant VP Joe "Higher IQ Than You" Biden, Senator Obama has an interesting way of "bringing us together" by insulting Nancy Reagan in his first speech after being elected president. Maybe Biden was smarter than the average voter when he said that Obama isn't ready to be president. So far, it seems that the Carter-Obama plan is to leverage America's dissatisfaction and promises of change to gain office to push the same old tax-and-spend and redistribute-the-wealth-to-those-who-voted-for-us Democratic agenda. Now is not the time for that.

The January 31, 2005 issue of Computerworld doesn't discuss it - but the headlines don't lie:

A) Zend raises funds from Intel, SAP
And there are several other articles that discuss even more open source initiatives. Important questions remain. Are Open Source initiatives forcing commercial vendors to consolidate or disappear? Does the future belong to Open Source? (article in progress)

Top Free Windows Utilities

PC Magazine's latest edition picked the top utilities in several categories in its article on the top Windows utilities of 2004, while PC World tests security programs (firewalls, antivirus, antispyware) in its article Bigger Threats, Better Defense. Without a doubt, both are fine magazines with excellent articles to help PC users. But these magazine are for profit, thus they must earn revenue, in part from charging for subscriptions, but also from advertising. Thus, it came as no surprise that neither article says much about the multitude and excellence of free software to perform these tasks. So, for those who can't afford to support both Microsoft and it's partners (or soon to be acquisitions) too, here's a list of excellent free software to help you get more out of your PC. This "living" article will be updated constantly as new and better (and FREE) utilities become available.
