The Episcopal church's appointment of an openly gay bishop has fueled the major media's attempts to shift power and influence from religion to media. It seems their unstated desire is to replace sermons with editorials, rabbis with reporters, and the Quran with the New York Times. Many will attempt to make the media vs. religion debate emotional ("those athiests hate religion"), but, plain and simple, it's really about power and influence.
